The Asthmatix have recently returned from the European summer where they traced their Baltic roots in Lithuania and Latvia, composed new sounds on keyboards and portable turntables purchased at Hamburg and Berlin flea markets and they recorded atmospheres from the Jerusalem shuk, the seas of Stockholm and the gypsy festivals of Germany.
The Asthmatix have nearly completed producing their first full length album and are ready to celebrate with Latkes, pretzels and donuts at their annual Hanukkah Jam.
Joining the line up is Sharif Galal. Since leaving triple j a few years ago he has mainly been producing music with a Middle Eastern flavour. Sharif's background is Egyptian and he's always been exposed to that music. The music he is producing and playing out has always been a combination of what he knows and what he grew up with, Western music, infused with the sounds of the Middle Eastern instruments. In 2010 he released an album called 'Sheesha Lounge Vol 2'. This year he is releasing a compilation called '1001 Sheesha Nights' and will be playing and performing some tracks for the first time at 107 Projects.
