Crown.St Cut Collective has partnered with Rane, and Shure to launch the first Wax Wars turntablist battle at Name This Bar in Sydney. This series of eight live events will take place weekly on Thursday nights (starting June 27) from 8-12pm.
Each battle will comprise of five three-minute rounds nightly between two turntablists, showcasing on vinyl or Serato Vinyl - juggle routines, word play, scratching and turntable trickery the likes of which have only ever previously been seen at the world-renowned DMCChampionships.
The winners of these heats will then compete in two quarter-finals and a semi-final, culminating in the top two squaring off in a grand-final (on August 15). The eight turntablists will fight it out on four turntables and two Rane TTM sixty-one mixers with built-in Serato. Their unique style and handiwork will be filmed live using two GoPro cameras and projected onto a large screen for the crowd to see.
Each battle will be hosted by a special Guest MC and judged by crowd-vote, with the overall winner taking home a Serato SL2 box, Shure M447 needles and runner-up receiving a pair of Beyer Dynamic Headphones and Shure needles.
These live events will also be streamed via podcast on Westsyde Pirate Radio and Bondi Beach Radio.
Alongside the 8 scratchologists battling on wax, MTN Australia presents 8 Aussie powerhouse artists, Days One, Peque VRS, Alex Lehours, Sprinkles and KON. Repping for the girls Bei Badgirl, Skel, and Bridge Stehli. Individually, they all hold their own on the international stage, come get up close and personal and watch them throw down the thunder while the DJ’s cut up a storm.
