Saturday 21st November : Picnic presents #MathewJonson, Cobblestone Jazz & Palms Trax

  • Jam Gallery 195 Oxford Street Mall Sydney, NSW, 2022 Australia (map)

Regrettably, due to council issues with the Marrickville Bowling Club, all upcoming events at the venue—including ours—have been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, this was completely outside our control.

We've managed to secure an alternative space, the excellent JAM Gallery in Bondi Junction, to host these three spectacular artists. Tickets have been reduced to $40 and all previous ticketholders will be refunded the difference.

The show must, and will, go on! Get down for what promises to be an extraordinary night of music and dancing.

We’ve assembled a lineup of serious quality: we’re lucky enough to be showcasing a double dose of the musical brilliance that is Mathew Jonson, both in solo mode and with bandmates Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula as legendary trio Cobblestone Jazz. Add in one of our more recent loves Palms Trax making his Australian debut and we’ve got quite a party on our hands!

As a solo artist, Jonson has developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music: when you hear one of his tracks, you immediately know it's his. His classical and jazz background have translated into a sophisticated and nuanced style of club music that’s as beautiful as it is gripping on the floor. A Mathew Jonson live set is truly something to behold, an epically engaging and immersive experience from a master of his craft.

Multiply that talent by three and you get Cobblestone Jazz. Straight up one of the most glorious electronic ensembles on earth, Jonson, Tate and Dhula have been releasing and performing their unique brand of improvised dance music for nearly 15 years, resulting in two timeless albums albums on !K7 (23 Seconds and The Modern Deep Left Quartet, the second in collaboration with The Mole) and a zillion happy dancing customers who’ve copped their magical live show.

Blazing Berlin-via-UK youngster Palms Trax has been smashing it since his first release on Lobster Theremin only two years ago, crafting a modern twist on classic house that’s distinctly his own. 2015 has been a massive one, highlighted by his signing to Amsterdam dance behemoth Dekmantel plus sets at Found Festival in London, Sonar in Barcelona, Glastonbury and a handful of gigs in the legendary Panorama Bar. It’ll be his debut trip to Aus and we can’t wait to see this house star on the rise show us his goodies!

The hugeness is real. Tix on sale now over at RA.
