feat. members of Devo, Talking Heads, Ween + The Residents

Following its world premiere at SXSW this year, Groovescooter is thrilled to finally announce the Sydney premiere of THEORY OF OBSCURITY about one of the most intriguing music acts/art collectives of the last six decades THE RESIDENTS.

Groovescooter have been itching to announce this long-awaited documentary after much talk with the director DON HARDY over the last 18 months and are thrilled that the Sydney Underground Film Festival (SUFF) were keen for us to include it in their 2015 program. From the forward-thinking band's beginnings in San Francisco in 1969 to the present day, this eye-ball masked multimedia troupe has continued to innovate, confound, challenge, surprise and delight whilst remaining completely anonymous. The film features Gerald Cassale (DEVO), Jerry Harrison (TALKING HEADS), Les Claypool (PRIMUS), Dean Ween (WEEN), Penn Jillette and others. It also quite possibly includes members of The Residents themselves - you'll have to wait and see! In amongst new and archival footage, all of these folks theorise not only about what makes The Residents such a special, genre-defying and enduring entity, but also why celebrity is an artistic inhibitor.

Still, who the hell are they?! Were two members of The Beatles part of the early line-up? Does that explain the cover of their debut LP Meet The Residents? These and other questions will remain unanswered.
